Alexandre Guimarães

Alexandre Guimarães is a composer and a guitar player. He was born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Listenning to master Toninho Horta learned guitar language . He took guitar and improvisation classes with Juarez Moreira and Celso Moreira. To complete his musical education he studied harmony and arrangement with the Cuban maestro Nestor Lombida. In the 90’s appeared in the brazilian musical scenario with Brigitte, a pop rock band that inserted humor to the sound track of Vamp and Deus nos acuda, soap operas from Globo Channel. From 1998 to 2002 the Colombian baixista Carlos Betancourt and Alexandre created the Q’late band. They explored latin and brazilian rhythm’s mixture. As a solo artist embraced also the small guitar cavaquinho which enabled him to develop a good work emphasizing samba and other brazilian rhythms. The musician Alexandre offers a subtile mixture of electronic and pop music elements improvising chorinho, bossa nova and jazz according to the brazilian traditional spirit.
