Anna Serafinska

Born on 9 November 1974 in Poland, Anna Serafińska went to Music School from the age of 6, where she studied classical violin for 12 years as well as conducting. She studied jazz singing, vocal performance, composition and music arrangement in The Department of Jazz Music of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland. She holds a MA in Jazz and Popular Music Studies – vocal PhD. in Vocal techniques. Upon completion of her MA in 1997, she took up a teaching position in vocal performance at the Academy. She also undertook doctoral studies and, in January 2004, was the first person in Poland to defend her thesis in vocal emission and performance in jazz and popular music and was granted a PhD title. Anna continues to teach at the Academy of Music in Katowice, alongside her performing career. As a performer, she participated in numerous singing contests and festivals were she was a winner of several prestigious international competitions. In July 2004, she was awarded the First Price and voted the best by the public at the Montreux Festival Jazz Voice Competition. In 2000, readers of the prestigious Polish magazine Jazz Forum as a New Hope of Polish Jazz voted Anna. Anna has been working live and in studio recording with several established and new jazz and popular musicians on the Polish music scene.
