Bakelite

Bakelite take their name from a revolutionary early plastic that was responsible for the colour appliance explosion in the 1950's. Named after its Belgian inventor, Chemist L.H.Baekeland c.1909 'Bakelite' is actually pronounced Bay Ka Lite. Bakelite's low-resolution post-pop sound is primed for red-light-saturated, sweaty dance parties. Heavily distorted bass synth and bit-crushed low-fi beats are the backdrop for the aggressive lead synth and kinetic vocals battling at center stage. With opening slots for artists such as Nina Hagen, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Ratatat, The Organ, We Ragazzi, and Breaker! Breaker! Bakelite have been quickly gaining support and momentum. Watch out for Bakelite making square-waves in your town. Bakelite are from Vancouver, Canada Read more on Last.fm.
