Balloons Kill Babies are an emerging three-piece making heavy instrumental post-rock in Brisbane, Queensland. Succinctly described as “huge and dark,” their performances in and around the city attract audiences hungry for something different. Guitarist Christian Carter and drummer Francis Daly formed and dismantled progressive doom metal band Anhedonia by the age of 21, and now produce intricate, beautifully textured sounds directly from the collective subconscious. Bassist Karl O’Shea began his musical career with alternative rock outfit My Dying Days and drives the band’s low end with resolute presence and an experimental approach. Their recently released debut EP Leviathan, combines the delicate, layered textures of Sigur Ros with the driving insistence of Nine Inch Nails. Sam Haycroft (Sydonia; I Am Duckeye) provided original artwork and graphic design, while seminal local producer Marly Luske (The Red Paintings; Ash Grunwald; Deep Purple) has recorded, mixed and mastered all tracks.
