Bananas were formed in 1981. In 1982 they win the Portuguese Festival S?-Rock (Rock Em Stock/7UP). In 1983 they sign with EMI Portugal and release a single produced by T?li C?sar Machado. The tracks included are Identidade and Virgens-Impulsos. Afterwards Jorge Rom?o leaves the band and joins GNR (Portugal). The band changes their name to Ban and releases the mini-LP Alma Dorida. Included are four original songs without keyboards, only guitar, bass, voice and drums. The 2 songs that stood out were Alma Dorida and Pantomima. The band's line-up at this point in time was Jo?o Loureiro (vocals), Jo?o Ferraz (guitar), Francisco Monteiro (bass guitar) and Paulo Faro (drums). In October 1986 they release the maxi single Santa, produced by Ricardo Camacho and considered by the singer Jo?o Loureiro their first Pop attempt. The record contains the songs Santa, Portugal and Ultramar. The entry of Ana Deus (of 3 Tristes Tigres) into the band marks the completion of their Pop transformation. In April 1988 they release the album Surrealizar. The biggest hits of this record are Irreal Social, Encontro Com Mr. Hyde and Num Filme Sempre Pop. In 1989 they release the album M?sica Concreta that includes the songs Excesso Aqui and Dias Atl?nticos amongst others. Rui Fernandes (Saxophone) and Ricardo Serrano (Keyboards) join the band.
