Barbara Jungfer


Originally from Berlin (west), where she learned to play first blues, then jazz at jam sessions and from local musicians, she studied jazz guitar at the Hochschule für Musik/Köln (Cologne) from 1992-98. She participated in international jazz workshops, as the Siena Jazz Seminar/Siena/Italy (1996) w. Enrico Rava and the Banff Centre for the Arts Jazzworkshop/Canada (1998) w. David Liebman, Kenny Werner, Kenny Wheeler and John Stowell. As a very versatile musician, she has been playing in various contexts such as bebop, modern jazz, blues, funk, fusion, latin, and sometimes experimental and free music. This is how she got to play as a sideman with musicians like John Tchicai, Helmut Brandt Mainstream Orchestra, Schäl Sick Brass Band, Berlin Big Band, Christof Griese’Affinities, Tobias Schmidt-Relenberg, Joachim Gies, Silke Eberhard and also accompanying singers like Hattie St. John, Karen Gallinger and Elisabeth Tuchmann. She has been working as a theatre musician (Saarlaendisches Staatstheater/Saarbruck) and accompanying readings of different authors and topics. in 2001, she performed with the Georg Pfister Quartet at the Theatre Festival in Avignon/France. In 2002/03 she travelled to Dakar/Senegal, where she played in clubs with musicians from Berlin and Dakar and has been leading a jazz workshop at the Ècole Nationale Des Arts.
